Edgar Hernandez’ world is inhabited by red-nosed Santa or W.C. Fields-like characters who combine cranky, sad and amusing traits. This piece, Adding Color to My Life, is from his Lost Kingdom series of mixed media pieces that combine paintings and polymer sculptures, each representing the lost, lonely feelings that we all experience from time to time.

Edgar Hernandez was born in Mexico and has been a musician, sculptor and animator since moving to the U.S. See more of his work on his Etsy site and Facebook page. The link was passed along by Etsy polymerist, Marcia Palmer.

Mixed media use of polymer clay seems to me to be a sign that polymer clay is at home in the art world.

          Edgar’s work touched my heart.

Gosh his work is wonderful! Very evocative. The neat thing is that his characters are given such a distinct style and personality as well as little implied stories, that I immediately expected them to be animations – could see them all in motion! Wonderful!

I found Edgar’s pieces amusing and captivating at the same time. I am inspired by many of the mixed media artist working with polymer clay. Keep ’em coming Cynthia!

What a wonderful mixed media/PC collaboration. His character renditions are certainly the work of a master visual story teller. As a working musician who sometimes forgets what music is all about, I had a very strong immediate visceral reaction to his “Adding Color to My Life” .

I adore these creations, and as usual I am late to the party. Better late than never!! Keep making them and one day I must have one.
