Polymer coastlines

Scotland’s Melanie Muir shifts coastlines and colors with her new Reggae series. Named for its color palette, this new necklace is built on hollow forms.

Melanie has also posted some new shapes and three-dimensional pieces that reflect her studio view of Ebb Tides and Rock Pools and Whirlpools from her studio on the coast.

Her flawless finishing work brings out the best features of her designs and colors. For the most complete view of her world (and her shape templates) go to her Facebook page.

Enjoy your weekend!

This is truly impressive! The combination of designs and techniques are just a joy to study. Each component is delightful. Way to go, Melanie.

Melanie will be discussing her approach to finishing and more during her Synergy3 seminar ‘Good, Better, Best’. The seminar is over halfway sold out.

I second what Mary Anne said, the use of color is terrific. And I LOVE the pieces with a lot of white space, really makes the colors pop. My faorites are the “fractal”-looking nuggets, they really do echo meandering coastlines. Good work, Melanie!

Melanie’s work makes me want to weep–for the sheer breathtaking beauty of it, and because I’ll never have her talent. Sigh.

I saw this breathtaking piece on facebook yesterday, and have been falling all over myself since then praising it. Before coming to PCD this morning, I knew it would be featured today..it HAD to be :). I love “rmkdesigns” comment — this piece elicited the same response in me. Melanie is a wonder….

Oh my! How does she ever do it? What a beautiful array of beads. That’s really something! I love all the colors, swirling together and yet brilliantly set apart. 😀

Cynthia, thank you so much for highlighting my work with such a delightful paragraph and huge thanks to you all for such incredible compliments. It uplifts and supports me enormously. I hope that everything I do to push my work forward reflects on what a fabulous medium polymer is and encourages others to constantly strive to reach their own next level, whatever that may be.

Another awed comment. Absolutely stunning Melanie. Can I recommend Malanie’s generous and professional Craftcast class for those not able to learn from her face to face. It had a huge impact, particularly on how I finish my work. Melanie, this piece is radiant.

                            Stunning, stunning… breathtakingly stunning.

As a polymer artist I would be thrilled with myself to make even a SINGLE segment of that necklace to the quality of craftsmanship and sheer beauty that Melanie does.

All the segments as a whole are mind-blowing.
