Blazing new polymer paths

Trachsel on PCDaily

Sandra Trachsel’s works will have you squinting and scratching your head. How is that kind of precision possible?

Sandra (ST-art-clay) explains that she combined an illusion quilt pattern from Caryl Bryer Fallert and Dan Cormier’s matrix cane idea. For her mud cloth bracelet, she credits Donna Kato for the cane ideas and Dan Cormier for the forms.

A trip through Sandra’s recent work shows that while she’s been inspired by great teachers, she’s veering off on her own path which we’ll happily follow.

Totally agree with everything you’ve already said. I’m always sitting with mouth wide open and then whispering some rude words to express how awesome and genius her work is.

I happen to find the bracelet particularly endearing. I looks like tribal zentangle. Neat stuff.

Beautiful work. I also agree with everyone’s comments; her attention to detail and her finishing is a cut above.

Wow – amazing. Can’t help but wonder if there might be some early Sandra McCaw influence running somewhere through that necklace, too. Wonderful!

What a delight to see Sandra featured here on PCD. Her work in our medium has been good for some time, but lately, she is really finding ways to take everything to the next level, not just with her skill as a technician, but with her decision making as an artist. As a student, she commits herself to mastering the techniques she’s learned from others. As an artist, her personal design choices continue to add up to some truly original and stellar work. She is a role model in our medium, balancing the recognition of her influences with a self-respecting celebration of her own artistic voice. Thank you Sandra. Keep going…

I L?Ve seeing work like this! Where one person takes several ideas from several others and then creates a totally new technique! That is why it is so important to learn and share in creativity. I can remember back when i volunteered working with students ans when you taught them something, each one saw things differently and it would enable you to see MANY MORE POSSIBILITIES.

Jaw dropping. And she’s only been working with polymer since 2009! Can’t decide if I should laugh with delight or cry from depression!

Sandra, you are one of my favorite polymer clay artists and I didn’t even realize it. Scrolling through your Flickr feed, I was reminded that every time you have appeared on Cynthia’s blog I’ve been blown away and excited by what I am seeing. Simply fantastic work!
