Tricks up her sleeve:
London’s Carol Blackburn will bring her latest tricks to this 2-day class. We’ll make lots of veneers and canes that will end up as small vessels and stunning starts for jewelry.
Get ready for head-smacking, jaw-dropping revelations. (Supply list to follow.)
Carol is very methodical and thrifty, bringing astonishing order to a chaos of color. She’ll show us how to waste nothing. Her tools are few and homemade.
She spent years in the knitwear industry in the UK and Europe. Shopping for buttons, she chanced upon some made of polymer.
Knitting was so central to her eye for design that she could easily envision the same over/under, in/out repeating knitwork patterns in polymer clay.
Carol has developed no-fail methods of putting bits together so that her color combinations pop every time.
In recent years Carol has translated famous knitwear designs like Missoni and Fair Isle to polymer. Barcodes, ripples, zigzags, networks, Mobius strips, knots, and stitches have all been boiled down to their essence.
I try to sit near Carol at every conference because she’s able to dissect and reassemble complex patterns in the most matter-of-fact, straightforward way. She distills combinations down to simple chops, twists, flips, and cuts.
Her British accent and lively vocabulary are endlessly entertaining. And she’s never been to Ohio! What a treat this class will be!
