Punctuated polymer

Cynthia figures out why she bought these cutters on PolymerClayDaily

By the time my cutters arrived from Etsy’s Silvia Tomas in the Netherlands, I’d completely forgotten why I needed them. What was I thinking? It looked like a comma!

After a little research, I figured it out and made myself a pair of earrings. Two cutouts swirl around each other to make a cool oval. Silvia makes some clever designs.

The web was slow so making myself a holiday treat did double duty. I had to talk my husband into a quick photoshoot over dinner so that I could make a post of it. I envisioned one of those lovely long neck shots but that would take some major photoshopping.

This is all to tell you that I’m definitely on holiday and that I hope you’re playing around too.

Pull out those tools and tutorials that you just had to try and then lost track of. Whip up something fun for yourself.

100 days of surfaces

Iris Mishly doggedly and delightfully pursues her 100-day challenge on PolymerClayDaily.com

Israel’s Iris Mishly is deep into her 100-day challenge for veneers. This one didn’t go as planned so she cut it into strips that she offset and reassembled into an even better, almost digital-looking version.

You can learn a lot from watching others’ work evolve. My 100-days are languishing at the two-week mark but that’s how things go these days and I refuse to feel apologetic.

Better to ride on Iris’ coattails and learn from her. Her collection is amazing. There’s no paint, powder, ink, or stencil she won’t try. Lovely to look at. Here’s her Etsy.

Brisk polymer clay holiday sales

Our local Winterfair was full of fine polymer clay work. Pat Bolgar uses micro glass marbles in innovative ways on elegant pieces, Kim Arden’s booth was full of eye-popping colors and Wiwat’s work was full of unusual shapes and hidden treasures.

There were others at the show (look for my small picture album here). Many were too busy for me to intrude. Even in our dismal economic times, the appeal of polymer clay’s authenticity and color are strong and sales were brisk.

Speaking of brisk sales! Did you notice that Ford and Forlano, Celie Fago and Susan Lomuto have joined the ranks of Etsy sellers? We’ve reached a tipping point, don’t you think? I hate to miss a party so I’m promising to fill my empty gallery this week. Are you on board?
