Melanie West joins fabric and polymer in new ways on PolymerClayDaily.com

Maine’s Melanie West posts daily on Facebook about an astonishing array of artists that she’s discovered.

She rarely reveals what she’s working on. But in a July feature, she shows a new series brooches that she calls Fabric Rocks. Polymer is involved but she’s done a sleight of hand so that it’s difficult to tell what’s fabric, what’s textured polymer, and how the pattern is created.

She’s probably proudly smirking at having stumped us with her new tricks on a Monday. What’s your guess?

The smooth rounded rock shapes on this necklace from Australia’s Michelle Sansonetti (Zedemee) have a Zen-like quality that appeals. Her swirls seem to calm in contrast with the weather maps that threaten.

Michelle credits Spain’s Fabi Ajates for inspiring her in a 2019 class. Isn’t it marvelous how polymer ideas bounce around the world? No boundaries, no weather disturbances, no politics. Hang on to that thought today.

Janet Bouey's pendant contains echoes of the coasts on PolymerClayDaily.com

Asian shapes meet polymer stones and colors of Vancouver’s beaches in Janet Bouey’s newest pendant.

Janet took some of the surface treatments she learned in a Claire Maunsell class and made the veneers integral to this new design that picks up the colors of the shore.

She doesn’t say much about herself but you’ll want to keep track of Janet on Instagram and Flickr.

Succulent polymer

Kim Korringa creates a succulent world on PolymerClayDaily.com

This bowl of succulents from California’s Kim Korringa was a marvel to behold. Everything…the 6″ rock bowl, the succulents, the soil, even the string-of-pearls…was made of polymer.

You can tell from Kim’s attention to detail that she’s quite a gardener.

Meanwhile, Kim was also working on a line of caned Christmas jewelry for the Uno Alla Volta catalog adding minuscule ornaments on yards of caned trees.
