Rough and ready polymer

Myranda Escamilla roughs up her new palette on PolymerClayDaily.com

Texas’ Myranda Escamilla uses what she has onhand as she slaps together rough-hewn textures and stone color mixes for a bold fashion look.

“I’ve realized brown is usually available for purchase or at the very least, easier to find than other shades, and to save what precious clay I have, I’ve had to make-do,” she explains. The exercise pushed her out of her color comfort zone and into what turned out to be a trendy collection.

See more on her second Instagram page. The look is very 2021.

Polymer conjunction

Ishita Singh lines up polymer for a great conjunction on PolymerClayDaily.com

Jupiter and Saturn are having their “Great Conjunction” so it’s no wonder that I’m seeing celestial implications in these earrings (Sage Danya studs) from Ishita Singh (@shop_rangeen)

Light and shadow, long days and short. “Ish” is from North Carolina by way of India. Opposite sides of the world, like planets, don’t get together very often.

You know me, I love a simple design that suddenly gets complicated. Half circles stacked throw shadows that become celestial.

Hopeful Monday

The way little things add up to something big and refreshing is what draws us back to Australia’s Bonnie Gilmore (Hatching Sparrows). She intended to make studs but absent-mindedly drilled holes. No harm, no foul, make the best of it. They became dangles.

My eyes wander to places that make me feel good and Bonnie has a talent for soothing with some polymer words of inspiration tucked in among her baubles. Happy, hopeful Monday.

Signs of spring

Shannon Tabor's spring Nests predict a vibrant spring on PolymerClayDaily.com

We look at polymer for signs of spring and if South Carolina’s Shannon Tabor (Charleston Clay Jewelry) is any indication, the season will be bright and energetic.

Her Nest earrings are uninhibited and unafraid coils of polymer decorated with splashes of color. On her Instagram, you’ll see polka dots as well.

She makes them into studs or, for the bolder customer, studs with big dangles. They are selling briskly, according to Shannon. Are you ready for a big, bold spring?

Artful home is full of polymer

Klara Borbas joins over 20 polymer artists on ArtfulHome. PolymerClayDaily.com

It’s not too early to shop, is it? For polymer art, you can’t do better online than Artful Home.

I searched the site for “polymer clay” and page after page of gorgeous jewelry popped up. I counted 22 polymer artists in this high-end catalog!

These simple circle studs from Pennsylvania’s Klara Borbas appealed to me. But oh, there’s much more!

CEO Lisa Bayne is to be congratulated for including such a rich selection of polymer art into her great online catalog. Judy Belcher and I met Lisa some years ago at an ACC meeting. Judy has a way of connecting with people and she certainly connected with Lisa and introduced her to polymer.

If you’re struggling with holiday shows, take a look and take heart! Stick with it and you’ll go places.

Abstract earrings

Pickled Ginger makes wearable abstract paintings on PolymerClayDaily.com

A visit to Bonnie Gilmore’s Hatching Sparrows led me to the mother lode of Australian polymer artists. We may have to mine this all week.

But I digress. These merrily collaged earrings are from Fee’s Pickled Ginger though they’re mostly sold out.

Flat thin cutouts of leaves and feathers are bunched with brightly patterned narrow slivers that hang from a dot.

It must be like wearing a moving abstract painting.

Tied up polymer

Kseniya (SolarBird) ties up the week with a series of earring knots on PolymerClayDaily

Belarus’ Kseniya (SolarBird) ties up the week with these pale tidy knots of extruded ribbons of clay. She makes them into both stud and drop earrings that you can see on her Instagram.

The twists look simple but you know that getting them just right requires dexterity and more than a few tries to get the hang of it. Lovely summer accents.

The folder of finds for StudioMojo is bulging with links tracking artists delivering works and setting up shows plus a tutorial or two. I’ll sort it all out for Saturday’s newsletter. We’d love to have you in on our weekend conversations!
