Giving polymer life

Dayton’s Anita Behnan packs her 1″ polymer bugs full of smiles. Putting personality into a small lump of clay is quite an art. She knows how to give her creatures endearing expressions as she surrounds them with little caned flowers.

At this point in the season, all the bugs in the garden look as harmless as these. She sent along this very sweet rabbit as well. You’ll have to check Facebook to see more of Anita’s work.

We have 2″ – 3″ of snow on the way, no bugs here. The three over to the right look like they did something bad. They put a smile on my face.

These little green bugs are infused with such whimsical and endearing charm in their little faces that they make the perfect way to start off a Friday. It’s impossible not to smile when you see them.

Anita has been doing this a long time and has learned to inhabit her little characters with her own cheerful smile and outlook. It is quite a skill to put a lifelike personality into simple strokes of clay. Way to go, Anita. And thanks for featuring her, Cynthia.

All I can say is cute, cute, cute. Anita is a wonderfully creative artisan to evoke so much emotion from us humans. I agree with Ania that these little guys are a great way to start the weekend.

I watched mine being made in Detroit and it was hilarious. I’ve had to fend off 3 would be bug stealers so far. Anita, you are the best!

SO cool to see Anita’s work on PCD. Thanks for including her. She’s a joy, isn’t she? And that’s reflected in the little figures she sculpts, as well as her other work.

Anita’s work amazes me, her figurines have life and a “finished” quality iv’e seen rarely. Her micro mini canes blow my mind. We our so lucky to have her in our guild!! Bravo!!!!

These pieces put the phrase “Cute as a Bug” in a whole new perspective Anita! 🙂

Those are so cute! There’s such a fine line between “cute” and “too cutesy” (I think). Anita does cute so well without crossing that line!
