Out of time polymer

Richardson on PCDaily

Imagine my surprise when I picked these beads for today and then found that the artist, Kathy Richardson of Cincinnati, Ohio, had recently taken a class from Leslie Blackford (she was yesterday’s inspiration). Let’s call it great minds thinking alike.

Kathy was already a committed boho style, urban grunge, mixed media kinda gal. Leslie pushed Kathy to think about sculpture for her Out of Time Designs. The double entendre of her shop name makes you think, doesn’t it?

The polymer beads at the left are from another time when children played with wooden toys instead of video games. She applied colors, sanded and colored them again to give them the worn look of old toys. Peeling bark was the inspiration for the curled beads at the right.

Kathy says, “My shop started from a need to pay for this terribly addictive habit of making things to make people smile, make me smile and make the world a bit brighter in the process.” Take your time and smile as you look at her work this weekend.

Oooh this make me so happy! I am a huge fan of Kathy’s work. Her organic shapes are always so real and approachable and just beg to be picked up and touched. And I do love her colors. Thank you Cynthia for exposing this artist to a bigger audience.

Ginger you have been a big help to me also; an inspiration and cheerleader! 😉
      Thanks for the kind words!

OK – she applied color and then sanded …. on uncured clay? I’m trying it today.

        Hi Mary Kaye!

I used Prismacolor pencils on CURED white clay; at least for the two examples that are shown here. I use chalk on uncured clay but the pencils are too hard.
        Good luck and have fun!

I’m totally in deep like with the rustic feel of these pieces! Such a talented artist:)

Thank you Pixie! I haven’t been able to touch ground since I saw this. So grateful to Cynthia 🙂

Cynthia, everyday the first thing I do is get my coffee and the second is to sit down and check your pick of the day. I have always been in awe of the talent you featured on here and wished that someday it would be me.
Today was the first day I forgot to check it out. I went to my etsy site and thought how weird I have so many “views”-just not normal but …ok. Then I had a convo from someone about a show coming up and they mentioned PC Daily. So I thought Oh yeah go check it. I can’t tell you how excited I was to see you had picked me! My birthday is in a couple days and I couldn’t have got a better present from anyone.
        Thank You so much!

Kathy your work is beautiful and so original! Love to see all the new pieces…. all the work you put into them shows. When is the next show in Loveland?

          • reply Kathy R. ,

Thank you, Carol! You know that I can give you a private showing anytime you want since you are so close!

          • reply Anita Brandon ,

As beautiful and unique as the artist, herself!

            • reply Kathy R. ,

Thank you, Anita! I did intend them to be funky and weird, but I think they came off a little more cute than I intended. But my hands have a mind of their own..
