Underneath their simple shapes and endearing expressions are layers of luscious colors, bits of cane, swirls of stripes, and shimmering crackled metallics.

It’s an endearing combination of fancy and plain, whimsical and serious. Always dotted with a bright red indication of where Chifonie’s heart lies.

Melbourne’s Michelle Sansonetti (Zedembee) can’t predict what polymer creatures will take shape in her fingers.

Here it’s a bemused cat with a bird on its head.

It made me smile and that’s the main criteria for a Monday post. The cat’s stripes are comfortably rumpled and the expression is satisfyingly silly (Felix and Philomena). It’s a good way to start the week.

Polymer ornaments for a cause

These clever tab and slot polymer ornaments by Connecticut’s Cat Szetu are intended for a December 7-15 tree decoration competition at the Ronald McDonald House Tree of Hope in New Haven.

The Southern Connecticut Polymer Clay Guild has moved into high gear to blanket their tree with polymer ornaments. You’ll find other ornaments for the guild’s tree on their FB page

Polymer love story

France’s Stephanie Kilgast has found a way to keep the cat that she had to put down recently. She created a palm-sized polymer version of Arya that can be popped into a pocket or gazed at on a window sill.

This was a heartfelt departure from the fruits and veggies that Stephanie usually creates. She documented the sculpt with the video below. It’s a love story in polymer.

Distilled polymer

Cat of Prague’s Hamlin Designs distills the essence of her subjects into small smooth sculptures. Using only a lump of polymer Cat packs action and personality into simple shapes that convey energy and attitude.

Each piece is around 2″ long and is hand formed, then sanded and buffed. “Often times, when I have a hunk of clay in my hands, I try to hear/feel what it wants to become,” she says.
