Kimle’s perfect pairings

I stumbled into some new works that continue our mixed media theme.

“I created these beads as an exercise in color and pattern,” says Iowa’s Patricia Kimle. “My goal was to skate along the fine line between ugly color combinations and a sophisticated palette that works.”

She used metal clay and hand drawn molds to create the silver feathers that are riveted to the polymer. The feathers create the focus and push the colors and patterns into the background. The beads are in an exhibit at her local art center. See more on her website and her Etsy page.

Patricia will be teaching at the Bead and Button show in June and her second book, Perfectly Paired: Designing Jewelry with Polymer and Metal Clays will be released in April.

Taking a trip down memory lane and longing for spring, Patricia shares a picture of a polymer Easter egg of the Iowa Statehouse dome that she prepared for the White House in 2000. I couldn’t resist including it.

        These are wonderful beads! Yes, I agree regarding the PMC use – it’s so much more than useful that just as a bezel.

          Wonderful works of art! Yes, I think the book is on my must have list, too now. I have long loved PMC and the wonderful things I see people do with it. Another medium, like polymer clay, that people continue to push the envelope of creativity with.

              I’m so excited that the book is nearly out. My editor and I worked on the final edits just 3 weeks ago. Kalmbach prints beautiful books. And since its being printed domestically, it will be here soon!

                Wow, a trip down memory lane. I have one of Patti’s eggs. I think I got it in a swap or won it in a raffle and I also have a pendant with the leaf mold. Circa 1998 0r 2003. I guess that makes me OLD!

                  That Iowa Dome Egg is absolutely magnificent!
                  It triggers many emotions in me; gives me cause to ponder broader issues of justice, religion, art and redemption. I don’t know what the Iowa Statehouse is – but this piece has certainly made me want to find out.
                  This is my most favouritist piece ever by the spectacular Ms Kimle.
